Imprisonment for non-payment (prison)

Prison

What happens if I cannot pay the fine?

If you do not pay a fine after we have repeatedly tried to collect on the claim, we ask the police to consider whether you must serve the prison sentence imposed in the event of non-payment.

Can I choose prison instead of paying a fine?

No, you cannot choose prison instead of paying a fine.
Fines must be paid if you have enough money to pay them.

Can I be granted a payment agreement instead of imprisonment?

Once we have sent an imprisonment request to the police, it is too late to sign a payment agreement with us. You now have to deal with the police in the place you live.
They also decide when you will be put in prison.

Can I avoid imprisonment?

To avoid imprisonment, you must pay all the fines we have registered against you.
Log onto 'My Page' to see a list of the unpaid fines we have registered against you.

How to pay:
Use the 'claim number' in the KID (customer ID) number field when you pay.
You will find the claim number in the letter you have received about imprisonment.
You will find the account number here.

I have paid the fine, will the police be told about this?

If you pay fines for which we have sent an imprisonment request to the police, we will tell the police about the payment and how many days in prison are left. If you pay all fines that are listed in the imprisonment request, we tell the police that they can close the case.

You can check which unpaid claims SI has against you: Log onto 'My Page'.
